Teofimo Lopez and Sandor Martin said they’re ready.
At yesterday’s final press conference, the two junior welterweight contenders told the media, including FIGHT SPORTS, that they are both ready to fight come Saturday night.
Martin, a former European junior welterweight champion, told FIGHT SPORTS that there isn’t anything impressive about Lopez. He said that they’re both boxers and both have two hands.
He said one thing that he does have over the former unified lightweight champion is his strong mentality.
Martin last fought in April against Jose Felix and won by unanimous decision, but that came on the backbone of his most impressive victory yet, which was in October 2021 against former lightweight and super lightweight champion Mikey Garcia.
Lopez, however, said that his opponent’s most impressive win had a catch – Martin and Garcia fought at a catchweight. Lopez added that if anyone’s going to have trouble with weight on Friday, it’ll be Martin.
Lopez also told media that Martin is a huge step up from Jose Pedraza, who he did not want to fight in the first place.
For him, the goal is becoming undisputed champion in the division.
Despite not expressing heavy trash talk during yesterday’s presser, it ended in tension as Lopez and Martin locked eyes and did not want to walk away from each other during the face-off.
The two will meet in a 10-round main event at Madison Square Garden on Saturday. The winner is likely heading for a title shot after.
