Teofimo Lopez Says He Wants Crawford Next

Teofimo Lopez wants Terence Crawford next after turning down an offer to face Ryan Garcia.

The ‘Takeover’ is the current WBO junior welterweight champion after having beaten Josh Taylor via a unanimous decision. The win made Lopez a two-weight world champion following his accomplishments at 135 pounds. The boxer has indicated his desire to face the biggest names for the highest purses. However, that has not been so easy after Lopez turned down a fight with Garcia. The former expanded on how the offer was not reflective of what he felt he was worth.

“When you’re the best, when you are the guy, when you bring major sponsors, endorsements, big major business deals, when you offer me a 1.5 [million dollars] stake in the piece—f–k you. So yeah I declined the offer,” Lopez said

With that being said, Lopez had his eyes on Crawford. The latter became the first undisputed welterweight champion of the four-belt era after stopping Errol Spence Jr. in round nine. A rematch is in place after Spence exercised the rematch clause. However, Crawford has set his eyes on a Canelo Alvarez fight. A victory over the Mexican would make him a three-weight undisputed champion. That would rule out a Lopez fight. But that has not prevented the ‘Takeover’ from targeting it.

“Crawford, me and Crawford. If it comes. I love challenges. I love it. How else am I going to learn? How else am I going to be great? Besides, I’m the first male to become two-time undisputed…That’s all it is. It’s not like I’ve got some animosity,” Lopez said

If the Crawford fight does not get made, Lopez could face the winner of Devin Haney vs. Regis Prograis for a unification bout. The two boxers face each other on December 9th, 2023, for Prograis’ WBC belt. A fight with Haney, in particular, has long been talked about ever since their rivalry began at 135. However, when it came to Garcia, Lopez did not rule it, provided that the offer was improved.

“They tried to make it a pay-per-view fight, and I understand that. I understand how the percentage thing goes. It was an offer. It’s not to say the fight [with Ryan] can’t happen. It’s just negotiations. You decline the offer they throw out at you, and then see what they’re eventually going to say,” Lopez stated
