Teofimo Lopez Sends Message To Promoters: Make The Best Fights Happen

Teofimo Lopez is letting promoters know how he feels.

Lopez is the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, The Ring, and WBC (Franchise) Lightweight Champion. He earned the biggest win of his pro boxing career back in October 2020 when he defeated Vasiliy Lomachenko via unanimous decision. Lopez has been angling for a showdown with WBC titleholder Devin Haney, who is under a different promotion.

Taking to his Twitter account, Lopez made it clear that he feels promoters aren’t trying to make the best fights happen.

In order for us to bring Boxing back to its fullest, we have to fight the fights that are 50/50 competition. This is a PSA to all the promoters and fighters. Quit being prideful and make the fights happen! IT’S NOT HARD. Promoters stop trying to make more money than the fighters.”

Lopez’s mandatory challenger is George Kambosos. Top Rank Boxing’s Bob Arum has said he doesn’t believe the fight will take place in Australia until the pandemic is over. Lopez says if the Kambosos fight can’t come to fruition, then he wants a showdown with Haney.

Many argue that we’re in the modern version of the golden era when it comes to lightweights in boxing. Lopez, Haney, Gervonta Davis, and Ryan Garcia are leading the pack. Davis and Garcia have both expressed interest in facing each other but it appears Garcia has turned his immediate attention to Manny Pacquiao.
