Teofimo Lopez ‘Shocked’ By Vasiliy Lomachenko’s Accusations Of Corrupt Judging
Teofimo Lopez was taken aback by Vasiliy Lomachenko’s comments following their title clash.
Lopez and Lomachenko competed back in October. Lomachenko’s WBA (Super), WBO, and WBC (Franchise) gold were on the line. Lopez put his IBF Title at stake. In an upset, Lopez remained undefeated and became a four-belt champion in the lightweight division by defeating “Loma” via unanimous decision.
Recently, Lomachenko has made headlines by theorizing that bribery was involved with the judging in that bout. During an interview with BoxingScene.com, Lopez had the following response.
“I knew that he was probably gonna come up with an excuse of an injury, or something like that. Or that he’s probably too old and he’s gonna retire. There was a lot of commotion going on and I had an idea of what they were gonna throw at me when I beat this guy.
“However, for Lomachenko to come out recently and come out with a statement like that, it definitely shocked me. It surprised me, but at the same time, I mean, what else can I expect from a guy who left without talking about what he did wrong in the post-fight press conference? He didn’t show up for anyone. So, I think these statements just show what kind of person he really is.”
The defeat to Lopez is just Lomachenko’s second career loss. It’s his first defeat since March 2014. He was riding a 13-fight winning streak.
As for Lopez, the win improved his record to 16-0. It’s easily considered to be the biggest win of his career. Many feel “The Takeover’s” stock has soared and he is now a legitimate star in the world of boxing.
