Teofimo Lopez Sr. Seeks Immediate Kambosos Rematch
Teofimo Lopez should rematch George Kambosos Jr. in his next fight.
That is according to Teofimo Lopez Sr. The duo’s only meeting occurred in 2021 when Kambosos shocked the world to win via a split decision. The victory earned Kambosos the IBF, WBA and WBO belts at 135 pounds in what was the biggest win of his career. Lopez’s reaction to the result was far from happy.
The ‘Takeover’ was adamant that he had won while also hitting out at DAZN after having chosen the platform over ESPN. And that has continued to this day, with Lopez once again indicating his dissatisfaction with DAZN. And in doing so, Lopez predicted that the network would go out of the boxing world.
@EddieHearn 😮💨 like I said.. no more than 5 years! It’s going to happen whether you sterling silver spoon feed shmuck likes it or not! #AnalyticsDontLie https://t.co/KqPgJbyXSb

In addition, it turned out that Lopez had entered the ring with a medical issue. The boxer was diagnosed with pneumomediastinum, a condition that impacted Lopez’s breathing to the point where the medical conclusion ruled that he should not have been in the ring. But now that Lopez appears to be back to his best following his win over Josh Taylor to secure the WBO belt at 140, Lopez Sr. wanted his son to avenge that loss.
“I want Kambosos. We’ll tank that mother f***er right now, and you know what Bob [Arum of Top Rank] told me? ‘He [Kambosos] can’t fly from Australia.’ I don’t know. So, I told Bob, ‘Let’s do it in Australia. That boy will never even touch my son, bro. We’ll box the s**t out of him. I want to talk about it. Do you know why? Because I want the whole world to see when we beat the s**t out of his a** and knock his f***ing a** out,” Lopez Sr.
As of now, a Kambosos fight may not be at the top of the list of fights that the fanbase want to see. The Australian has been beaten twice by Devin Haney since then. Meanwhile, Kambosos’ win over Maxi Hughes was certainly controversial with the overwhelming consensus that he had lost the fight.
And yet, there were also question marks over Lopez’s form. Following the Kambosos defeat, Lopez put in an unconvincing performance against Sandor Martin to walk away with a split-decision win. But given the bad blood between the pair, there is enough of a narrative to make the fight.
“That’s a sorry a** boy and that boy isn’t going the distance with my son. He’s going to knock him out, and he already knows it; he already felt it. I want that f***ing fight so everybody can shut the f**k up already. Do you know what I’m saying,” Lopez Sr.
