Teofimo Lopez Vs. George Kambosos Headed For October 5 In New York

After several attempts, the Teofimo Lopez-George Kambosos saga might be coming to a conclusion.

Triller’s Ryan Kavanaugh sent contracts on Monday to Lopez and Kambosos for the undisputed lightweight title fight to happen on October 5 at Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater. The International Boxing Federation (IBF) contract deadline to be signed is today, August 24.

“We’re really excited about it: Tuesday night boxing in New York,” Kavanaugh said.

The pay-per-view will be available for $19.99 via FITE or for $2.99 as part of a monthly TrillerVerz subscription series.

The long saga between the boxers began in February.

Triller claimed ownership of the matchup in the purse bid. The fight was originally scheduled for June 5, then that didn’t happen.

Then it was supposed to be for June 19, but that didn’t happen either. Lopez (16-0 12 KOs) tested positive for Covid-19.

Then came August 14, but it fell through because Lopez still had symptoms. September 11 was another target for the De La Hoya-Belfort card, but that didn’t happen either.

Kambosos’ (19-0, 10 KOs) team wanted the event in Australia in October, but the IBF ruled against it, leading to now. Kambosos is an Australian boxer.

Meanwhile, the New York location is familiar to Lopez. He’s fought at MSG six times.

Kambosos became Lopez’s mandatory challenger thanks to a decision win over Lee Selby in October.
