Teofimo Lopez Vs. George Kambosos Jr. Gets Another New Date, Contracts Signed

After being pushed around seven dates, the Teofimo Lopez versus George Kambosos Jr. fight has been booked for Monday, October 4.

Both fighters reportedly signed contracts and are now officially set to step into the ring at New York’s Hulu Theater. The previous date was October 5, but it was bumped up to avoid clashing with a possible New York Yankees-Boston Red Sox playoffs game.

The saga has had to jump through some hurdles.

Lopez said it was going to take place on May 29, then a June 19 date was announced. But Lopez tested positive for Covid-19, forcing the fight from August 14, but location was an issue.

September 11 was announced as a possibility, but then it was announced for October 17 to October 5. IBF ruled the fight must happen by October 17.

Lopez (16-0, 12 KOs) will be defending his belt since becoming world champion last October over Vasyl Lomachenko on points. Kambosos is also coming off a win, but hasn’t fought since his 2020 victory against Lee Selby in London.
