Teofimo Lopez Vs. Jamaine Ortiz Officially Confirmed For February 8th

Teofimo Lopez is set to defend his WBO junior welterweight title against Jamaine Ortiz during Super Bowl week on February 8, 2024, from the Michelob ULTRA Arena, Mandalay Bay, in Las Vegas.

This is Lopez’s first defense of his title after beating Josh Taylor via a unanimous decision. Lopez was in contention to fight Jose RamirezRyan Garcia and Subriel Matias. Ramirez turned down a multi-million offer, while Lopez rejected a reported $1.5 million offer to face Garcia. Matias was in the running, but a hand injury meant he had to pull out.

Ortiz will move up from lightweight to have his first fight at 140. He returned from his defeat to Vasiliy Lomachenko by beating Antonio Moran in September. A victory for either fighter sets up a potential unification with Devin Haney, the leading name at 140.

In the co-main event, Keyshawn Davis takes on Jose Pedraza at lightweight. The fight was meant for December 9, 2023. However, Davis withdrew after testing positive for marijuana. This means his win over Nahir Albright became a no-contest. Pedraza has failed to win in his last three bouts as he faces a tough task.
