Teofimo Lopez vs. Steve Claggett Close To Being Finalized For June 29

Teofimo Lopez vs. Steve Claggett is reportedly close to being made for June 29 in Miami.

Lopez is the WBO Junior Welterweight Champion, having beaten Josh Taylor to secure the belt. The Takeover made his first defense of the title against Jamaine Ortiz. Lopez won a controversial unanimous decision. Despite Lopez landing more power punches, Ortiz connected with more shots, with some suggesting he had outboxed the Takeover. The performance harmed Lopez’s chances of securing the big fights.

Lopez Sr. had targeted a summer unification with Devin Haney. Teo also called out Terence Crawford before the Ortiz fight. Bud dismissed the fight, telling Lopez to focus on his weight class. Crawford also felt Ortiz had been robbed of a win.

His opponent, Claggert, has a 38-7-2. Despite seven losses on his record, the Canadian has 26 KOs. He is on a nine-fight win streak, which includes 7 KOs. However, Claggert does not have a big-name win on his resume. He came close to beating former welterweight title contender Chris van Heerden, but he lost a majority decision.
