Teofimo Lopez’s Father Predicts Vasiliy Lomachenko Gets Stopped Within Five Rounds
Teofimo Lopez’s father has long expressed confidence in his son.
On October 17, Lopez and Vasiliy Lomachenko will clash in a lightweight title unification bout. Lopez’s IBF gold will be on the line, while Lomachenko will defend his WBA (Super) and WBO Lightweight Titles. The WBC also recognizes Lomachenko as its champion, so he will also put his “Franchise” belt up for grabs as well. WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman sees the winner of this fight as the Undisputed Lightweight Champion. This is despite the fact that Devin Haney holds the WBC Lightweight Title.
Speaking to Ring Magazine, Lopez’s father said he sees his son knocking out Lomachenko within five rounds.
“We’ve been looking for this fight forever, and stylistically, my son is a nightmare for this guy,” father Lopez said. “(Lomachenko) is not supposed to be in this weight division. My son is a big 135-pounder with a lot of skills. Skill-wise, this is a great matchup, and great for the fans. I see my son outboxing him, and I know a lot of people say that can’t happen. They’re going to be surprised.
“Loma does the same thing over and over again. My son knows how to adapt. It’s going to be a couple of rounds, and he’s going to figure out Loma, and then he’s going to get caught. I don’t see the fight going past five rounds. My son is way too smart for this guy and too strong. It’s going to be a matter of time.”
Lomachenko has never been stopped in his pro boxing career. His lone defeat came in just his second bout back on March 1, 2014. It was a split decision loss to Orlando Salido.
Lopez is undefeated in his pro boxing career with a record of 15-0. You won’t find many who disagree with the notion that Lopez has his toughest test to date in Lomachenko.
