Teofimo Lopez’s Father Thinks Vasiliy Lomachenko Is ‘Shook’
Never short on words, Teofimo Lopez’s father thinks his son has Vasiliy Lomachenko shook.
Lopez Jr. and Lomachenko haven’t been chummy leading up to their highly-anticipated title unification showdown. Lomachenko’s WBA (Super), WBO, and WBC (Franchise) gold will be on the line. Lopez will put his IBF Title up for grabs.
While Lopez has developed the gift of gab, his father is also quite the talker. Following the final pre-fight press conference, Lopez Sr. shared his theory that Lomachenko is doubting himself ahead of the big showdown. Here’s what he told BoxingScene.com.
“He’s shook. That’s why they didn’t wanna have the face-to-face. They said no. That’s why I said what I said. ‘We’ve gotta have the staredown! We’ve gotta have the staredown!’ But they don’t wanna scare them anymore. That’s their little boy. After Saturday, everything’s gonna change at Top Rank. There’s gonna be a new king, and I can’t wait. Nothing was given to us. We took it.
“I already see that this guy is shook. He made us go through hell to get here. He made us get a belt. And we did it, because we knew we could. But you saw him up there. He’s so stiff. He’s gonna realize on Saturday, when he walks into that ring, that he made a big mistake. But thank God he did, because we didn’t want this guy to get away. We got it.”
Lopez Jr. also chimed in, saying that Top Rank Boxing doesn’t trust that he and Lomachenko can go any longer without throwing fists. He assured fight fans that he won’t be tussling with Lomachenko until fight night.
Lomachenko vs. Lopez will take place inside the MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event will be held on October 17 and it’ll air live on the major ESPN network and on FIGHT SPORTS in over 50 countries worldwide.
