Terence Crawford Ponders Whether Or Not He’s Leaving Top Rank
Terence Crawford is unsure whether or not he will walk away from Top Rank Boxing after his next fight.
Crawford is set to put his WBO Welterweight Championship on the line against Kell Brook this Saturday night, November 14. Speculation has run rampant claiming that Crawford will wrap up his time with Top Rank after his bout against Brook. When asked by a reporter how many fights he has left on his contract, Crawford said he wasn’t interested in the topic.
BoxingScene.com tried getting a different answer from “Bud” but he’s simply undecided.
“I don’t know, I don’t know. You know, we shall see.”
Crawford then discussed a bout with WBA (Super) Welterweight Champion Manny Pacquiao falling through, leading to this matchup with Brook.
“I thought the Pacquiao fight actually was gonna happen. That’s the fight we was really in conversations [about]. We was in deep negotiations, and that fight fell through. So, we had to go to the next option.
“You know, the pandemic was one of them,” said Crawford on the reason he didn’t get the Pacquiao fight. “Then they thought the fans were gonna be allowed to travel and attend a fight in the Middle East. They put a halt to that and basically said they wanted to wait until the beginning of the year because in the United States numbers was spiking up again. So, they really didn’t wanna too much take a chance on it. So, that was the main reason, the fans.”
Time will tell whether or not Crawford decides to stick with Top Rank or join another promotion. For now, his focus is on trying to get his fourth successful WBO Welterweight Title defense.
