Terence Crawford, Shawn Porter To Meet November 2 For Welterweight Title Fight
After weeks of negotiations, Terence Crawford and Shawn Porter finally have a date to box for the title.
Top Rank, which handles Crawford, and PBC, which handles Porter, have struck a deal for the welterweight title fight to happen November 20 in Las Vegas, ESPN reported. The deal avoids a purse bid that was scheduled today at noon in Puerto Rico where rights to the fight were going to be auctioned off.
This will not be a joint pay-per-view with Fox. Instead, Top Rank will promote and lead the event with PBC.
Crawford (37-0, 28 KOs) has only one fight left on his contract with Top Rank. The last time he fought he defended his WBO title with a TKO over Kell Brook in November.
Crawford is who some fans argue is the best pound-for-pound fighter in the division. Boxing Junkie ranks him as No. 1.
Porter (31-3-1, 17 KOs) has some impressive wins on his resume. He has held the welterweight world championship titles twice including the IBF title from Devon Alexander in 2013 and the then-vacant WBC belt over Danny Garcia in 2018.
He was dethroned by Errol Spence Jr. in 2019. Still, Porter remains a boxer known for his boxing style.
