The PFL Would Like Wilder To Face Ngannou In An MMA Fight

PFL chairman Don Davis is open to the idea of Deontay Wilder facing Francis Ngannou in MMA.

The two fighters were being linked with a bout prior to Ngannou facing Tyson Fury. There were talks over a two-fight deal, one in boxing and the other in MMA. And following Ngannou’s impressive performance against Fury, where he dropped the WBC heavyweight champion in round three, the talk over a fight has emerged once again. Davis expanded on how Ngannou will make his PFL debut next year. And with no clear opponent over who he could face in MMA, Davis welcomed the idea of Wilder.

“I still think it will be a mixed-rules fight. And, I still think Deontay Wilder is the most likely opponent [for Ngannou]. [Francis] will fight for PFL in 2024, we don’t know if it’s first or last quarter. That would be unbelievable. I think the second and third options are much less compelling. So we don’t want to force those options in order to get [Ngannou] in Q1. We’re listening to Francis, and he’s sequencing his options. He has a great boxing option and this great crossover option,” Davis

Nevertheless, the chances of that happening may be complicated by Wilder’s desire to face Anthony Joshua. Both fighters will fight on December 23rd, 2023, in a huge card in Saudi Arabia. Wilder takes on Joseph Parker, while AJ faces Otto Wallin. And if both boxers win, there is an expectation for them to face each other next. Therefore, it would not make sense for Wilder to take a fight in MMA that could potentially jeopardize his career if he picked up a serious injury. So, for now, the fight is still some way off.
