Themba Gorimbo expressed his gratitude towards Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s offer to help him.
Gorimbo, who clinched his first victory inside the octagon with an impressive decision win over Takashi Sato in May, revealed that he was financially struggling leading up to his second UFC bout.
In his post-fight media scrum at UFC Vegas 73, Gorimbo disclosed his challenging circumstances, saying: “I’ve been broke. I came to America seven weeks ago with no money.
“I only had enough for my flight, getting from the airport to the gym, and a friend sent me $200. It’s been a roller coaster. Right now, my bank account shows $7, but I’m savoring this victory.
“I don’t even know my paycheck yet. Winning was my main focus, and the money is a bonus.”
In an incredible show of solidarity, Johnson took to Twitter to connect with Gorimbo, sharing his own humble beginnings and offering his support.
The Hollywood icon often recalls having a mere $7 to his name before becoming a WWE superstar and achieving A-list status in the movie industry.
This is f’n crazy to see and brings back many emotions and memories.
$7.49 in this fighter’s bank account.
I once had $7 bucks too. I’ve been there on that grind.
Got your back, brother. I’ll help.
