Thiago Santos vs. Aleksandar Rakic Set For UFC Fight Night Event
Thiago Santos is already looking to get back on the horse.
Santos vs. Rakic is reportedly set for a UFC Fight Night event on March 6. ESPN’s Brett Okamoto first reported the light heavyweight matchup. The sources told Okamoto that Santos vs. Rakic will be a three-round fight as it will not serve as the main event.
Santos is coming off an upset submission loss to Glover Teixeira. “Marreta” had been out of action for over a year due to recovering from surgery on both knees. While he had his moments against Teixeira, even dropping him, he didn’t have an answer on the ground.
Rakic pulled off perhaps his biggest win to date in his last outing. On August 29, he defeated Anthony Smith via unanimous decision. This was a rebound win for Rakic, who was coming off a controversial split decision loss to Volkan Oezdemir.
With the loss to Teixeira, Santos’ record fell to 21-8. He has now lost two bouts in a row and hopes to avoid a three-fight skid. He also finds himself out of the official UFC light heavyweight rankings.
Rakic’s record improved to 13-2 with his victory over Smith. He currently sits at the number four position on the 205-pound rankings. Keep it locked on FIGHT SPORTS for the latest info on the March 6 event.
