This Fight Was The Most Enjoyable For Canelo Alvarez In 2021
Canelo Alvarez went on a quest this year and that was to become the first undisputed super middleweight champion.
Alvarez achieved that by overcoming Avni Yildirim, Billy Joe Saunders and Caleb Plant. But there was one fight that was the most enjoyable for him.
“I think Caleb Plant was a bigger fight because there was only one more belt left, so the magnitude of the fight was bigger, but the fight I enjoyed a lot was Billy Joe Saunders,” Alvarez told The Ring. “Because he talked a lot of s–t and we had 73,000 people in the arena,”
Alvarez and Saunders met on May 8 in Arlington. The Mexican superstar slowly, but surely, beat down Saunders.
In the eighth round with a little over 1:30 left, fans could hear the extent of Alvarez’s punching power when he countered with a quick right hand that sounded like it crushed Saunders’ face.
This was the final round between the two as Saunders’ corner threw in the towel.
Alvarez added another stellar performance to his resume and, this time, in front of over 70,000 people.
“I loved [setting the attendance record], because for me, I’m gonna be in the history books of boxing for that too. So for me it’s huge, and I hope I can break that record soon,” he added.
