‘This Is The Real Deal’: De La Hoya Rules Out Exhibition Fight Against Belfort

While retired combat sports stars are eyeing hefty purses in exhibition fights, Oscar De La Hoya and Vitor Belfort are looking to wage war against each other. The Phenom, 44, and Golden Boy, 48, will have an eight-round professional bout on September 11 at the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles.

“I decided if I was coming back it was for real, none of this exhibition stuff…this is the real deal, a real fight with real knockouts for a real win,” De La Hoya has said.

Belfort, who has won only once in his five pro boxing fights, is ready to unleash everything he has.
“I hope I don’t end up killing him but everything is on the table. This is a no holds barred, all-out gladiator fight to the bitter end,” the former UFC champ said.

From Mike Tyson to Floyd Mayweather and from Ben Askren to Anderson Silva, fans have seen most of their favorites legends of different combat sports try their hand in boxing. It will be interesting to see how the Golden Boy and the Phenom work it out in the ring.

With exhibition rules no longer in the picture, everyone is eager to see a fierce showdown between the two.
