This Is Why You Won’t See Tyson Fury Posts On Social Media

We won’t be hearing much from Tyson Fury for a while.

Fury announced Tuesday that he’s taking a break from social media. He’ll hop back on after he defends his WBC heavyweight title against mandatory challenger Dillian Whyte on April 23 at Wembley Stadium in London.

“I’m about to go off social media for the next eight and a half weeks,” Fury said in a Twitter video.

“I’m going to go into training camp to give Dillian Whyte all the respect in the world that he needs.”

Fury (31-0-1, 22 KOs) has been very active in the weeks leading up to the finalization of the fight. He’s known for calling other boxers out in the form of a video, mocking those like Whyte, Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk.

Whyte (28-2, 19 KOs), on the other hand, has been silent throughout the process. His comments have only come through promoters rather than himself on social media.

Last week, Fury’s co-promoter, Bob Arum, claimed that Whyte asked for additional funds to actively promote the fight. Arum declined the request.

In the waning hours of the WBC’s contract deadline on Monday, Whyte finally signed the contract. The delay was because Whyte is reportedly still unhappy with his split of the guaranteed purse, which is $8.2 million or 20% of the purse.

Fury mocked Whyte when news broke that he signed the papers.

“Oh my God,” Fury said sarcastically. “Dillian Whyte’s signed his contract for 8 million dollars. What a surprise!

“An absolute idiot. Should this even be a talking point? The man signed, for the biggest payday he’s ever going to get in his life.”

But now fans won’t be hearing any commentary from the champion.

“I’ll never underestimate anybody in my life, and I’ll give this man all the respect he deserves coming as the number one-ranked WBC heavyweight challenger in the world,” Fury said.

“Don’t phone me, call me, email me, text me or try to contact me in any single way as I am out of bounds until May. I will see you all at the press conference. I’ll be training away, please appreciate my privacy and space.”
