Former unified welterweight champion Keith Thurman (31-1, 23 KOs) sent a sharp message to his detractors ahead of his March 28 showdown against WBC Junior Middleweight Champion Sebastian Fundora.
The fight will see Thurman jump to 154 lbs for the chance to become a two-weight world champion. Thurman’s move into a second weight class comes amid significant external doubt. Having fought only twice in the last five years, the 37-year-old is no longer seen as an elite name. This is despite having beaten the likes of Danny Garcia and Shawn Porter, while also only having one defeat on his resume which came against eight-weight world champion and Hall of Famer Manny Pacquiao. Thurman’s last outing was a third-round knockout of Brock Jarvis in Australia in March 2025, his first fight at 154 lbs. Thurman dismissed the idea that he is past his prime, saying he will prove himself against Fundora.
“I fought two times in five years. Every time they looked at me, all they saw was a question mark. Can he get to the finish line? Is he going to break down? Is he at that stage of his career? I know where I belong versus the best in the world. And I have an opportunity here and now to elevate myself back to world champion status,” Thurman said
