Tim Bradley Outlines Lomachenko’s Strategy For Beating Haney

Tim Bradley believes that Vasily Lomachenko’s optimal strategy for defeating Devin Haney is to fight on the inside.

The pair are set to face each other on May 20th, 2023, as Haney puts his undisputed titles on the line against the three-division champion.

The American is considered the favorite, given his height and reach advantage, while Lomachenko’s adeptness on the inside, with his angles being the equalizer somewhat.

This has raised question marks over the nature of the strategy. Haney’s ‘drained’ weight cut at 135 lbs has been a talking point, which was seen during his weigh-in at the George Kambosos Jr. fights.

However, he does have the huge physicality to his advantage. Therefore, Haney’s chances of victory lie on him keeping the Ukrainian on the outside with his jab.

Otherwise, Lomachenko closing the distance could spell trouble. And that is how Bradley saw it.

“Haney has a 5 1/2” reach advantage. Then you can dominate him out on the outside, and you won’t allow Lomachenko to get to where he wants to get to, and that’s at midrange.

“Lomachenko likes to operate at midrange, and if he can get past the lead hand of Haney and get past some of those counters and work his way to the inside and work his quick set offense and get around to that angle, then he’s got a dang good chance of pulling off this upset,” Bradley

And the Ukrainian will have to be at his best, given Haney’s confidence coming into the ring. The star will be looking to overpower the Ukrainian, especially since fellow fighters have picked against him: case in point Teofimo Lopez.

“For me to defeat him would mean everything to me, and that’s what I look to do on May 20th. I want to show I’m levels above and how much better I’ve gotten since my last fight.

I’m stronger, faster, and more explosive that I’m getting. We got to see. We’re training for the best him on fight night.

“I’m looking to make it as easy as possible and handicap him of his best attributes. We’re preparing for whatever he brings to the table,” Haney
