Tim Tszyu Assures His Next Fight ‘Will Be For The World Title’

Tim Tszyu won’t let boxing fans forget that he called next.

And if he wins his fight Saturday against former title challenger Terrell Gausha (22-2-1, 11KOs), it’s expected that he’ll get the opportunity against the winner of the undisputed junior middleweight championship rematch between Jermell Charlo (34-1-1, 18KOs) and Brian Castano (17-0-2, 12KOs), which is expected for May 14.

“I’m the WBO mandatory challenger. Whatever the boys decide to do next after their rematch, that’s their choice,” Tszyu told Boxing Scene.

“If they want to lose their title, the winner can face me once the WBO mandates the fight. Or they can just give it up. All I know is my next fight will be for the world title.”

Tszyu (20-0, 15KOs) has been due for a shot at Castano’s WBO title for several months, but was delayed after all four sanctioning bodies agreed to allow Castano and Charlo to enter an immediate rematch.

Then Tszyu had an opening after Castano postponed the rematch due to a biceps injury, but the PBC reached an agreement with Tszyu to take a stay-busy fight and a promise of getting the winner of Castano-Charlo.

“And my next fight after that will be my first title defense,” Tszyu said.
