Tim Tszyu On Why He Accepted Spence’s Late Weight Request
Tim Tszyu (27-3, 18 KOs) has accepted a late request from Errol Spence Jr. (28-1, 22 KOs) to push their upcoming July 26 showdown to the full 160-pound middleweight limit.
The clash was originally scheduled as a 158-pound catchweight, but Tszyu approved the change instantly to ensure the fight moves forward smoothly. According to Tszyu’s camp, Spence’s team requested the extra two pounds after passport and travel complications delayed his flight to Australia, cutting into the time he had scheduled to acclimatize and trim down. For Tszyu, the decision came down to a simple aim. He wants to beat the best possible version of the former unified welterweight champion, so there are no excuses.
“I just wanted him here. I wanted the fight to happen. I’m not a diva. It’s whatever, man, whatever. I’m an easy guy. I just don’t want any excuses. I want him here, refreshed, rejuvenated, make sure he’s not struggling with weight, make sure everything’s on point, because I wanna beat up the best Errol Spence,” Tszyu
