Tim Tszyu Retains His WBO Belt With A Unanimous Decision Win Over Brian Mendoza
Tim Tszyu’s reign as the WBO super welterweight champion began successfully as he beat Brian Mendoza via a unanimous decision.
The Australian overpowered his opponent with the heavier shots even with Mendoza’s fast pace. The first sign of action occurred in the second round. The two boxers connected with their respective right hands to set the tone.
Mendoza was throwing more punches, but when Tszyu did land, the Australian’s shots were having a bigger impact. In the third round, Tszyu landed with a straight left, sending an early warning to Mendoza.
The Australian upped the pressure in the next two rounds. A left and a right combination hit Mendoza in the fourth, which was followed up by a straight left, hook and an uppercut a round later.
After the halfway stage, that is when Tszyu began to pull away. The champion connected with numerous uppercuts, as Mendoza took some serious damage in round seven.

That showed as Mendoza’s eye began to swell up. The American had no answer to the barrage that was coming his way. And it could have been over in the tenth.

Post-Fight Comments
“Chaaaaaaarlo, hello! Yeah buddy. Probably in his delusional head, he would say he would beat me. Come and get it. He is the best 154, but let’s really prove to anyone who is the king of the division. He’s [Mendoza] world-class for a reason, he’s just behind me. I told you, it’s my last hooray [in Australia]. Hopefully we can all go to Vegas together,” Tszyu
