Former WBO junior middleweight champion Tim Tszyu (26-3, 18 KOs) is set to face Denis Nurja (20-0, 9 KOs) on April 5 in Tzyu’s home of Australia.
The winner of 157-pound catchweight bout could set up a showdown with Errol Spence Jr. in the summer, who has not fought since his July 2023 round 9 TKO loss to Terence Crawford. Following a tough 17-month stretch where Tszyu suffered three losses in five fights, he made changes to his camp, teaming up with new trainer Pedro Diaz.
In their first fight together back in December, Tszyu secured a unanimous decision win over Anthony Velasquez. Despite being in a rebuilding phase, Tszyu’s promoter George Rose noted that Tim rejected “easy” options. Ranked No. 12 by the WBA, Nurja is unbeaten in 20 professional outings, however Nurja has never fought beyond six rounds, making this 10-round scheduled contest a significant step up.
