TJ Dillashaw Successfully Defends UFC Bantamweight Title By Knocking Out Joe Soto – August 30, 2014 (This Day In MMA History)

Over two minutes into Round 5, TJ Dillashaw made the first successful defense of his UFC bantamweight title.

Dillashaw (currently 18-4) knocked out Joe Soto at UFC 177 in the headlining event. Dillashaw earned a second successful title defense in his following fight against Renan Barao, but he would then lose it to Dominick Cruz.

He won the title back against Cody Garbrandt – scoring victory as a two-time UFC champion – and successfully defended it in a rematch against Garbrandt. But he lost the title to Henry Cejudo in January 2019.

He is most recently coming off a win over Cory Sandhagen and is currently recovering from a knee surgery. He’ll be sidelined for three months.

Dillashaw is the No. 2 ranked bantamweight in the UFC.
