To Retire Or Defend? Glover Teixeira Talks About His Career Following Title Win
Glover Teixeira finally got his fairytale ending.
But Teixeira made it clear that – despite finally claiming the UFC gold — it’s not his ending just yet.
“I think I’m gonna make that decision in the gym someday when I don’t want to do this anymore,” Teixeira said during the UFC 267 post-fight press conference.
After nine years in the UFC and at 42-years-old, the Brazilian fighter won his first ever UFC title. He became the oldest to do so.
Teixeira said he knows it’s hard competing and even his wife knows it. There are days he has to force himself to sleep, but other days he stays in bed for hours just to rest his body.
But still, he wants to continue doing it.
Since he is the champion, he has to decide whether he wants to retire or defend his title. But as of right now, he’s loving where he’s at.
“But I love it. I love the results,” Teixeira said. “I love the way I’ve been fighting, the way I’ve been training, so I’m gonna keep doing it until I don’t feel the love anymore.”
“Until I don’t feel the passion anymore is probably gonna be the time that I’m gonna quit,” he said.
