Tom Aspinall Enters The Podcast Space With New Show ‘The Inner Game’
Starting this June, UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall will host a new combat sports psychology podcast that is planned to air weekly.
Aspinall has been out of the octagon since last October when he found himself on the receiving end of multiple illegal eye pokes courtesy of Ciryl Gane. The inadvertent, yet damaging, illegal strikes from Gane resulted in the UFC 321 main event match being declared a no contest, sidelining Aspinall and putting the top of the heavyweight division in limbo. This was to be the Englishman’s first test as the new heavyweight champion, after spending a prolonged time with interim status until the retirement of former titleholder Jon Jones.
In a recent update, Aspinall shed some light on his ongoing eye issues since the match with Gane, citing that he is now awaiting clearance for full contact training as things have been progressing well.
Now, as his recovery continues, he will be kept busy as the on-air host of ‘The Inner Game’ podcast, which will go live every Tuesday on the Rayo app, Apple, Amazon Music, and Spotify. While clearly MMA and combat sports will be a prominent topic of discussion on the show, it has been noted the general idea of the podcast is to cover ‘elite performance under pressure across sport, entertainment and culture’ and the mindset that goes along with that.
“People see the knockouts, the wins and the belt but they do not see the doubts, the pressure and the work that goes on in your head.”
“With The Inner Game, I wanted to have real, honest conversations with people at the top of their fields about what it actually takes mentally to perform when there is nowhere to hide.”
