Tom Aspinall On His UFC Return
UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall (15-3, 1 NC) has revealed his return to the octagon has been delayed after a recent scan on his eye injury showed he needs additional recovery time.
Aspinall suffered the injury after Cyril Gane’s fingers made direct contact with both eyes during their heavyweight title fight last October at UFC 321, leaving him temporarily blinded and forcing the referee to halt the contest in round one, which became a no-contest. Aspinall has since been diagnosed with bilateral traumatic Brown’s syndrome and underwent surgery in February on his eyes. Aspinall had previously indicated he expected to be cleared for contact training imminently, but has now confirmed a delay.
“I’ve just had my recent scan. I thought it was going to get cleared actually to spar and fight straight away but they actually said they’ve given me another couple of months so I’m just waiting,” Aspinall
