Former WBC Cruiserweight Champion Tony Bellew has some serious praise for Vasiliy Lomachenko.
Lomachenko is scheduled to collide with Teofimo Lopez on October 17. He’ll be putting his WBA (Super) and WBO Lightweight Titles on the line, while also going after Lopez’s IBF gold. The title unification bout will air live on the major ESPN network.
Appearing on SiriusXM’s Ak and Barak show, Bellew said he believes there are only two fighters who can defeat Lomachenko (via Bad Left Hook).
“Lopez and Terence Crawford are the only fighters with a chance to beat Vasiliy Lomachenko. The only way Teofimo can beat him is to dictate the pace. Lomachenko is the best fighter I’ve seen since a prime Roy Jones Jr.”
Bellew may be retired from pro boxing competition but he still has his eye on the man he last fought. Oleksandr Usyk will collide with Derek Chisora on October 31 in a heavyweight bout. Bellew said that only two boxers can match the pure fighting skills of Usyk.
“Barring Lomachenko and Canelo, Usyk is the best pure fighter in the sport. He’s the best I ever faced and is unbelievably talented.”
Lomachenko has a pro boxing record of 14-1. He’s beaten the likes of Guillermo Rigondeaux and Jorge Linares. Lopez has a perfect record of 15-0. He’s coming off a second-round TKO victory over Richard Commey to capture the IBF gold.
