Tony Ferguson Sends Warning To Khabib & Justin Gaethje
Tony Ferguson has fired a warning to Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje.
On October 24, UFC Lightweight Champion Nurmagomedov will take on interim title holder Gaethje. The title unification bout is set to headline UFC 254 inside the Flash Forum on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. Michael Chandler will be on standby in case Nurmagomedov or Gaethje can’t show up on fight night.
During an interview with ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, Ferguson issued a warning to Nurmagomedov and Gaethje saying that he’s gunning for whoever walks away with the gold on October 24 (h/t BJPenn.com).
“Justin Gaethje, you’re f*****g welcome (that) you have a belt, son. I’m gonna tell you (to) go get my belt, cause that ass gonna get f****g whipped,” Ferguson said to ESPN. “And, I’m coming for it. So both you and f****g fathead, this is a message for both you f****g knuckleheads. My mat, my f*****g time.”
Back in May, Ferguson was defeated by Justin Gaethje via fifth-round TKO. The loss snapped “El Cucuy’s” 12-fight winning streak. He hadn’t suffered a defeat since May 2012.
Ferguson was supposed to fight Nurmagomedov at UFC 249 but the COVID-19 pandemic put a dent in that plan. Nurmagomedov couldn’t travel out of Russia for the fight. This is why Ferguson shared the Octagon with Gaethje.
UFC President Dana White had wanted to book Ferguson for the UFC 254 card against Dustin Poirier. The UFC boss said he had another opponent for Ferguson in mind after negotiations with “The Diamond” fell apart. The next option was Chandler but Ferguson didn’t like that idea for the money he was being offered.
