Top Rank Signs Another Heavyweight Boxer
A promising fighter from Nigeria will look to make an immediate impact with Top Rank. The promotion announced that it has signed Efe Ajagba to a long-term fight agreement.
“Efe Ajagba is one of the most gifted young heavyweights I’ve seen in quite some time,” said Top Rank’s Bob Arum. “He has immense physical tools and a great work ethic. I have the utmost confidence that we’re looking at a future heavyweight champion.”
Fighting four times in 2019, Ajagba (12-0) has eleven wins via knockout. His last bout was in March, beating Razvan Cojanu via TKO. That was on the Robert Helenius-Adam Kownacki card inside the Barclays Center. The 25-year-old is best known for a bout against Curtis Harper back in 2018. As the fight started, Harper walked out of the ring, getting himself disqualified.
Not only did Ajagba sign with a new promotion, but he also changed representation. Originally with Richard Schaefer’s Ringstar Sports when fighting for Premier Boxing Champions, he is now being represented by James Prince. He will also be trained under Kay Koroma after working with Ronnie Sheilds.
“I made this decision to become a better boxer and to advance my career. That’s why I signed with James Prince and Top Rank,” Ajagba said. “When I return to the ring soon, you will see a new Efe Ajagba. Kay Koroma and I are working on my head movement and defense, as I seek to become a more well-rounded fighter.”
Top Rank is looking to book Ajagba with an opponent before 2020 comes to an end. As of now, a date, location, or name has not been announced yet.
