Top Rank Signs Light Heavyweight Vlasov
Looking to bring in some heavy hitters for a shot at championship gold, Bob Arum and Top Rank announced the signing of Maxim Vlasov.
The Russian will make his Top Rank debut in the summer against Umar Salamov.
“Maxim deserves the opportunity to compete at the highest level, and we are thrilled to add him to our deep light heavyweight stable,” said Arum. “His fight against Salamov is one that I can’t wait to see.”
Vlasov (45-3) is on a three-fight win streak following a cruiserweight loss at the hands of Omar Garcia in May. A WBC Baltic Light Heavyweight Champion, Vlasov has only fought in the United States a handful of times.
“I want to thank Mr. Bob Arum for believing in me and signing me to a long-term promotional agreement. I am very excited to be part of the four-way tournament for the vacant WBO light heavyweight world title,” Vlasov stated. “Having fought professionally for 15 years in three different weight divisions against some of the world’s top fighters, I now believe that I am at the top of my game. I am ready to prove to the light heavyweight division that I have what it takes to become the WBO world champion.”
“The Kill” will be participating in a tournament to determine the next WBO Light Heavyweight Champion. The other side of the bracket will be Joe Smith Jr. v. Eleider Alvarez. All four fighters belong under the Top Rank brand. There is no current champion after Canelo Alvarez vacated the belt following his win over Sergey Kovalev.
Salamov (25-1) has won six fights in a row. His last bout was a knockout win over Emmanuel Danso. He is the WBO International Light-Heavyweight Champion, having held the belt since September 2018.
A date and location for the fight has not been announced yet.
