Top Rank to Promote Parker In International Market
Joseph Parker is a star in his native New Zealand, but his reach is about to expand. After Parker fights Andy Ruiz for the WBO heavyweight belt this weekend, he will be promoted by Bob Arum and Top Rank Promotions in America and China.
Arum confirmed that Top Rank will co-promote with Parker’s current promoter Duco Events after this weekend’s Auckland title fight.
Duco Events will continue to push Parker in his native New Zealand, but bringing Top Rank on board will push the 24-year-old Parker further towards global stardom.
According to BoxingScene.com, Duco Events director Dean Lonergan looks forward to the relationship with Top Rank as he believes it will get Parker the kind of international push that he already gets in New Zealand.
"Don’t think this is too big for us, we’re just starting," Lonergan said. "We have massive global ambitions for Joseph and for a number of other fighters. Just because we come from New Zealand doesn’t mean to say that we can’t do it overseas. In fact it encourages us to go overseas because our market is so small."
Top Rank boss Arum will be in New Zealand to watch Parker fight Andy Ruiz, who is a member of the Top Rank stable. Despite the new relationship with Duco and their plans for Parker’s future, Arum does not guarantee that Parker will be victorious.
"Having been in this business 50 plus years, I don’t expect anybody to win a fight and anything can happen in a fight like this heavyweight fight. But irrespective of who wins, the relationship with Duco will continue and go on."
