Top Rank wins Haney Vs Davis Purse Bid

Top Rank has won promotional rights to stage Devin Haney’s (33-0, 15 KOs) WBO welterweight title defense against mandatory challenger Keyshawn Davis (15-0, 10 KOs), with an $8,550,000 bid on Thursday. The fight is targeted for October 3, with Barclays Center, State Farm Arena and Michelob ULTRA Arena among potential venues.

Additionally, Teofimo Lopez’s Takeover Promotions was the only other bidder, coming in at $2,350,000 — a gap significant enough that some may potentially view Top Rank’s offer as an overbid.

Under WBO rules, Haney takes 75% of the purse bid, earning roughly $6.4 million, with Davis receiving about $2.1 million. Haney won the title with a win over Brian Norman Jr. last November. Davis makes his welterweight debut after a two-fight run at 140 pounds, having outpointed Jamaine Ortiz and Nahir Albright.

Top Rank now controls venue and broadcast arrangements for the bout.
