Top Rank’s Bob Arum Confirms A Haney v Lomachenko Bout Is Almost Done-‘That Fight Is Essentially Made’
The undefeated Haney has notched two wins against George Kambosos, earning himself all four major lightweight titles during their initial match and then securely defending them.
Meanwhile, Lomachenko’s comeback in October was characterized by victory over Jamaine Ortiz in an electrifying 12-round match at Madison Square Garden, thereby re-establishing himself as one of the prime contenders in the 135 lb division.
And in doing so, this capped off a difficult period for the Ukrainian, having done his duty in Ukraine following the war with Russia.
In his comments, Arum said: “That fight is essentially made. We’re looking for the site and the date, and that’ll be announced shortly. I had lunch with Bill Haney, Devin’s father, and Devin joined us, and they’re all ready. They’re lovely people. That fight will happen either before or right after Ramadan.”
There are lots of potential confrontations in the 135lbs division, with Shakur Stevenson being one of them. Nevertheless, with Haney being big at the weight, it is predicted that he will go up to 140 lbs following his bout with Lomachenko.
Arum has the opinion that Haney could jump right into a super lightweight match with Teofimo Lopez: “If Haney beats Lomachenko, have Haney fight Teofimo in a non-title fight. That would be a big fight. So there are a lot of ways to go with these guys,” Arum added.
