Top Rank’s DuBoef On Beterbiev: ‘He Is A Complete, Absolute Beast’

One of the top fighters in the light-heavyweight division, Artur Beterbiev has decimated the competition since turning pro in 2013. Beterbiev (15-0) is the IBF, WBC and lineal Light-Heavyweight Champion, and has been facing more prominent figures inside the ring.

If things don’t go according to plan, would he like to spice things up? According to Top Rank President Todd DuBoef, Beterbiev would be willing to do anything.

“Beterbiev would fight in the UK in two seconds and he wouldn’t see it as an obligation,” DuBoef told Sky Sports. “He is a complete, absolute beast! Anything in front of him, he takes down.

“He disregards ‘who’ or ‘where’. If you’re in front of him, goodbye. That’s it.”

Signed by Top Rank in January, Beterbiev was meant to face Meng Fanlong in Canada in March. The fight was one of many postponed due to the coronavirus. If the Fanlong fight wasn’t able to come to fruition, DuBoef has interest in a Beterbiev bout against Joshua Buatsi.

Buatsi (12-0) fought three times in 2019, and has 10 wins via knockout. He is the current WBA International Light-Heavyweight Champion, having held it since July 2018. He is the next in line for the IBF belt following Fanlong. At 27, Buatsi believes he is ready for the next big challenge.

“I have learning to do and they are dangerous fighters but I am a dangerous fighter too,” Buatsi stated. “Who executes the right way? With more learning and guidance, when the time is right, I’ll be ready to handle these guys. I believe, in the ring, I’m as dangerous as they are.”

Buatsi could end up facing Callum Johnson next, but only time will tell due to the coronavirus situation.
