Topuria Begins Training For Next Fight

Former two-division UFC champion Ilia Topuria (17-1) has returned to training as he prepares for his first fight since losing the lightweight title to Justin Gaethje on June 14.

The 29-year-old recently revealed that he had received medical clearance to resume full training after suffering the first defeat of his professional career against Gaethje at the UFC Freedom 250 card in Washington D.C.

Topuria suffered significant facial injuries during the fight before his corner stopped the contest following the fourth round, giving Gaethje the TKO victory and undisputed lightweight championship.

No opponent or return date has been announced for Topuria, although several potential fights have been discussed.

Topuria has called for an immediate rematch with Gaethje, while a long-running rivalry with Paddy Pimblett also remains a potential option. The pair have exchanged words repeatedly since an altercation during UFC London fight week in 2022.

Gaethje, meanwhile, has identified Arman Tsarukyan as the leading contender for his first title defense if he elects to continue fighting.
