UFC lightweight champion Ilia Topuria (17-0) is not expecting Donald Trump to be rooting for Justin Gaethje (27-5) in their headlining title fight at UFC Freedom 250, simply because Gaethje is American and Topuria is not.
Since Gaethje is the only American competing in either the main or co-main event, many have assumed the President’s loyalties will naturally fall with the U.S. fighter, but Topuria dismissed that notion because “Trump is a fan”.
“I don’t feel that way, that I’m the bad guy. I’ve always felt very loved in this country and I love this country so much. I don’t think that he has a preference. He is a fan of the sport and he just wants the best to win,” Topuria
Gaethje claimed the interim lightweight title with a win over Paddy Pimblett at UFC 324 on January 24 and faces Topuria in his third attempt at becoming the lightweight champion, having previously fallen short against Khabib Nurmagomedov and Charles Oliveira.
