Trainer: I Think Mikey Garcia Will KO Manny Pacquiao
One notable boxing trainer believes Mikey Garcia has what it takes to finish Manny Pacquiao.
Garcia hasn’t been shy in expressing his desire to fight Pacquiao. The former world lightweight champion claimed a showdown with Pacquiao is close to being finalized. “PacMan” has admitted that he’s leaning towards fighting Garcia next.
During a chat with ESNews, Joel Diaz offered a prediction for Pacquiao vs. Garcia (h/t World Boxing News).
“That’s a great fight. Mikey’s very accurate. Pacquiao is reckless because he throws many punches. I think Mikey, at this point, will knock him out with a right hand. I saw Mikey against Jessie Vargas, he is very accurate with his punches, and he will catch Pacquiao with a right hand. It’s a great fight.”
Garcia’s older brother, Robert, chimed in with the following.
“Mikey’s training hard, and Mikey’s got skills. Mikey also has power. We’ve had fighters who’ve faced (Manny) Pacquiao before. Like [Antonio] Margarito, Brandon Rios, and they all tell us that Mikey hits harder. You know Jessie Vargas also mentioned something like that (too).”
Garcia was last seen in action back in February 2020. He defeated Jessie Vargas via unanimous decision. It was Garcia’s first bout since suffering the first defeat of his pro boxing career to Errol Spence Jr.
Pacquiao hasn’t been inside the ring since July 2019. He captured the WBA (Super) Welterweight Championship by defeating Keith Thurman via split decision. Pacquiao is now the WBA “Champion in Recess” due to inactivity.
