Twitter Reacts To Whittaker Injury, Fans At UFC 234 Upset

The last-second change to the main event of UFC 234 has sent the MMA world in a tailspin as UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker will not be defending his title in the main event.

Whittaker was supposed to defend his title in front of his home country fans of Australia against Kelvin Gastelum, but it was revealed that Whittaker was taken to a hospital the night prior and was diagnosed with a hernia. As such, the fight has been canceled but the show is moving forward.

Fighters across the UFC roster took to Twitter to give their initial reactions to the news of Whittaker’s injury.

Of course, fighters were not the only ones that reacted to the news. Fans that were planning to attend the show in Melbourne, Australia were upset at the fact that their native champion won’t be able to fight and that the news hit right before the doors at the Rod Laver Arena opened. After finding out the news, people planning to go to Melbourne took to Twitter to express their frustrations.

With Whittaker vs. Gastelum out, the middleweight bout between Israel Adesanya and Anderson Silva is expected to be elevated to the main event.
