Two Title Fights Set for GLORY: Brussels
GLORY will bring two title fights to Brussels with GLORY 39 and GLORY 39: Superfight Series on March 25, the kickboxing promotion recently announced.
Fresh off his stunning upset of Nieky Holzken, newly crowned welterweight champion Cedric "The Best" Doumbe (65-4-1, 39 KOs) will headline the event, defending his title for the first time against Swiss challenger Yoann Kongolo. The two have actually faced off twice in the past, with Kongolo emerging victorious both times. Doumbe will look to prove that he has become the better fighter since their last meeting at GLORY 22 in 2015.
Doumbe’s last performance would certainly suggest that he has improved leaps and bounds. He faced off with then-champion Nieky Holzken in a high-profile bout on the massive GLORY: Collision event in December. He dominated Holzken throughout most of the five-round fight, ending the Dutch striker’s four-year unbeaten streak.
Two weeks ago, Kongolo cemented himself as the next challenger to the welterweight throne by winning the four-man welterweight tournament at GLORY 37 in Los Angeles.
Earlier that day, GLORY 39: Superfight Series features GLORY lightweight champion Sittichai (113-30-5, 30 KOs) defending his title against No. 1 ranked challenger Dylan Salvador (49-11-1, 21 KOs).
