Tyson Fury-Oleksandr Usyk Talks Back On, Bob Arum Remains Optimistic

It seems like Bob Arum has moved on from the Tyson Fury-Anthony Joshua fight.

Instead, Arum revealed that he’s in daily contact with unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk’s manager, Egis Klimas. Arum said that he is confident that an undisputed fight between Fury and Usyk will go down in 2023.

“Absolutely. I keep in contact on virtually a daily basis with Egis Klimas, the manager of Usyk, because he’s also the manager of fighters that we promote,” Arum said.

“So, I always take a reading on this and Klimas said that in his discussion with potential sites, it would be the last week in February or the first week in March which would suit us all.”

The optimism follows weeks of back-and-forth talks for the Fury-Joshua fight to happen on December 3, but that bout seems to have fallen apart.

Arum claimed earlier this week that Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing, intentionally “killed” the fight because Hearn “is clinging to AJ as his only potential attraction.”

Hearn announced on Monday that the Fury-Joshua fight is “off,” but is willing to pick up discussions. He further claimed that Arum isn’t even part of the negotiations.

“Tyson Fury is Tyson Fury. He hasn’t been trained in law school so he wants a fight, if he’s imposing deadlines which aren’t really deadlines because he’s sending a message, get off you’re a– and get this thing done,” Arum told Sky Sports.

“It was clear that was the case. So, nobody should be blamed for this fight not happening, not Tyson, not AJ, not anybody else other than Eddie Hearn.”

Usyk has made it clear that he wants to face Fury next, but started to look at other options when Fury began indulged in making the Joshua fight happen. Usyk said if he couldn’t get Fury next, then he’d opt for Deontay Wilder – given he defeats Robert Helenius on October 15.

Fury-Usyk was previously targeted for Super Bowl Weekend in February.
