Tyson Fury Plans For August Ring Return

Tyson Fury is fresh off his win over Arslanbek Makhmudov this past April in London, and is planning for a match with Anthony Joshua later this year.

Following the win over Makhmudov, Fury (35-2-1) revealed he plans on having one more tune-up match prior to his long-awaited bout with Joshua. In a recent post to social media, ‘The Gypsy King’ indicated that this tune-up match will be taking place in Ireland on August 1st.

Fury’s win over Makmudov followed a 16-month period out of the ring that was referred to as a short-lived retirement, so it is not a surprise that he would want a second tune-up fight before facing Joshua. His retirement announcement came after his second straight loss to Oleksandr Usyk in 2024.

‘AJ’ is most recently coming off his win over Jake Paul in December, in which he knocked the YouTube sensation turned professional boxer out with a powerful straight right in round 6. Next, Joshua will face Kristian Prenga this July in Saudi Arabia, with the expectation of meeting Fury later in the year.

No opponent has been announced for Fury’s potential fight in August, but it is likely it won’t be too tough of a matchup as the matchmakers will not want to spoil the opportunity to set up the Joshua bout.
