Tyson Fury has now set his sights on a bout with Zhilei Zhang following the breakdown in talks with Oleksandr Usyk, with reports that talks have begun.
Hopes had been raised that there could be the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis after Fury and Usyk began talks.
Despite Usyk agreeing to a 70-30 split against him, the deal could not get made. The ‘Gypsy King’, therefore, turned his attention to other matters.
Names such as Andy Ruiz Jr. and Joe Joyce had been mentioned. However, those names fell through, particularly given the latter’s defeat to Zhang.
Following his stoppage win over Joyce, the Chinese called out Fury. And by the looks of it, that is the next fight. However, it is important to note the following.
There are still reports that Fury could face Usyk in December with suggestions that talks of a possible four-man heavyweight tournament in Saudi Arabia, including Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder.
And given that Usyk has been ordered to face his WBA mandatory Daniel Dubois, both fighters could face each other next should they come out victorious.
