Tyson Fury’s Coach Is Now Mentoring Nico Ali Walsh

Walsh has already got two KO wins under his belt in his brief pro career. Bob Arum, who is promoting Walsh and promoted Muhammad Ali in 27 fights, feels that the legendary boxer’s descendant will improve a lot under Sugarhill Steward’s guidance.

“He is learning from Sugarhill, Tyson Fury’s trainer and Emanuel Steward’s nephew,” Arum said. “They have bonded. With Sugarhill he will only get better. Even though his grandfather is the great Muhammad Ali, Nico does not have a great background in boxing. He was in the amateurs, but not like a lot of the other guys. It’s in the genes!”

Tyson Fury’s trilogy victory against Deontay Wilder speaks volumes of the kind of resume Steward has built as a head trainer. He enjoys his bond with Ali Walsh.

“I tell him things he needs to know,” Steward said. “We talk about things which are very helpful to him. The things I’ve gone through, the questions I’ve had to answer, what people think. It relaxes him so he doesn’t have to go through the same thing.”

The 21-year-old will be fighting on the Vasiliy Lomachenko vs Richard Commey card on December 11 at Madison Square Garden.
