Tyson Praises McGregor, McGregor Calls Out Mayweather

In the last decade, one of the biggest fights to take place happened to be between a boxer and an MMA fighter. When Conor McGregor fought Floyd Mayweather in 2017, nobody could keep their eyes away from what was going on. With no boxing experience, McGregor earned a huge paycheck while fighting the undefeated Mayweather.

That is something that can get the attention of one of the best heavyweights in boxing history.

Speaking on his Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson podcast, Mike Tyson praised McGregor and the initiative he took to fight in the ring. Although McGregor lost via TKO in the tenth, it was enough for Tyson to give McGregor all the credit in the world.

“Listen, it was a spectacle, but this is where it’s not a spectacle,” Tyson said. “This is where it’s not: he never really had a boxing match in his life, right? He didn’t have a boxing match, he went ten rounds with the greatest fighter in the last 100 years of boxing. Think about that… he went ten rounds, scored punches on the greatest fighter in the last 20/100 years. Did he do something? Did he accomplish anything?

“People aren’t looking… but look what he had to fight against. Look what he did when he fought against it. Imagine a guy, never had a boxing match and he’s fighting boxing with me. He goes ten rounds and he’s fighting me and we’re fighting. Imagine if he did and we’re fighting and I’m doing my thing. That’s a bad motherf*cker.”

Tyson has been back in the spotlight since announcing his return to the ring for exhibition bouts. Several entities are looking to grab his attention, including Bare Knuckle FIghting Championship and Evander Holyfield himself.

McGregor, who made over $100 million in his only boxing match, has been interested in facing Mayweather again. His manager even stated that boxing will come right after his planned MMA bouts. He has since responded to Tyson with a tweet, praising him while also calling out Mayweather.

“Thank you Mike, and just know that for the inevitable rematch, with the knowledge I now hold of Floyd’s style, plus under the tutelage of my old school boxing coach, I will crack the puzzle, and I will beat Floyd. I promise my life on it. It is great to see you back Iron Mike.”

Mayweather has stated he is happily retired but could return for exhibition bouts if given the right price. This comes after he said a boxing comeback was unlikely following the deaths of the mother of his children and his uncle Roger.

For now, McGregor is looking to reclaim the UFC Lightweight Title. After that? He has an idea to move to the UFC’s welterweight division.
