Nunes Steamrolls Rousey, Garbrandt Outslicks Cruz
UFC 207 featured the return of Ronda Rousey, but it did not last long. The former champion was steamrolled by Amanda Nunes, who blasted Ronda Rousey with strikes on the way to a stoppage in less than a minute.
Rousey looked to clinch after feeling Nunes’s power, but she was done from the opening bell. Nunes, who showed her power when she crushed Miesha Tate at UFC 200 to win the title, was even more devastating in this fight.
"I knew I would beat the shit out of Ronda Rousey," a fired up Nunes said after the fight. Much ignored in the promotional buildup to the fight, Nunes needed to make a statement tonight and she did so in brutal fashion.
The co-main event featured a truly star-making performance from Cody Garbrandt. Thought to have only a puncher’s chance versus the elusive champion Dominick Cruz, Garbrandt was the savvier fighter throughout. He dropped Cruz multiple times in the contest and won a convincing unanimous decision.
The Team Alpha Male product will likely fight in a grudge match against former teammate and now enemy T.J. Dillashaw, who beat John Lineker in impressive fashion tonight.
