UFC 217 Medical Suspensions
Newly crowned UFC middleweight champion Georges St-Pierre leads a list of 13 fighters to receive extended medical suspensions following UFC 217 at Madison Square Garden.
The New York State Athletic Commission released the event’s medical suspension report on Wednesday to MMA Fighting.
Despite suffering multiple cuts and being badly bloodied, St-Pierre persevered to score a dramatic three-round submission over Michael Bisping in the night’s main event. The victory made St-Pierre one of only four men in UFC history to win titles in multiple weight classes, with his prior reign as Welterweight champion.
As a result of damage sustained in the contest, St-Pierre will be forced to sit out 45 days before returning to active competition, per NYSAC officials.
The 12 other fighters who received similar extended medical suspensions were: Aleksei Oleinik(90 days), Aiemann Zahabi (90 days), Corey Anderson (60 days), Stephen Thompson (45 days), Mickey Gall (45 days), Bisping (30 days), Cody Garbrandt (30 days), Joanna Jedrzejczyk (30 days), Johny Hendricks (30 days), Paulo Costa (30 days), Joe Duffy (30 days), and Mark Godbeer (30 days).
UFC 217 took place Nov. 4 at Madison Square Garden in New York. The night’s main card aired live on pay-per-view.
