UFC 218: Gate, Attendance, Bonuses

The UFC held UFC 218, the promotion’s first-ever event at the new Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan, on Saturday night. It was the first time the UFC has visited the Detroit metropolitan area since 2010.

UFC 218 had a total attendance of 17,587, a sell-out crowd, producing a gate of approximately $2 million.

Despite Francis Ngannou producing a highlight reel knockout of Alistair Overeem, the UFC elected to not give out a Performance of the Night bonus.

Instead, the promotion gave out two Fight of the Night bonuses — one awarded to the main card lightweight bout between Eddie Alvarez and Justin Gaethje, and the other to the prelim welterweight bout between Alex Oliveira and Yancy Medeiros. Alvarez and Medeiros both picked up wins via third-round TKO.

Max Holloway retained the UFC Featherweight Championship in the main event, defeating former two-time champion Jose Aldo, also by third-round TKO.
